The New Enterisol Salmonella T/C Swine Vaccine

Posted by Angie Gentry on 30th Sep 2014

Boehringer Ingelheim recently introduced Enterisol Salmonella T/C, a new salmonella vaccine for swine. Being that there are several options for salmonella vaccines currently on the market, we thought we'd run down a quick list of features to help you decide if you should include this in your current protocol.

The most unique thing about the new Enterisol Salmonella T/C is that it's the first dual antigen Salmonella vaccine for swine. This means it's label lists it as an "Aid in Prevention" against disease caused by Salmonella Choleraesuis & Salmonella Typhimurium. This is differs from Enterisol SC-54 and Nitro Sal in that these products only target salmonellosis caused by Salmonella Choleraesuis. Argus SC/ST's label has the "aids in prevention" labeling for Salmonella Choleraesuis but only has "aids in the control" approval for Salmonella Typhimurium.

Enterisol Salmonella T/C is given orally in a single dose to pigs two weeks of age or older. There are no label instructions for intranasal, as with Enterisol SC-54. Like SC-54, Salmonella T/C comes in frozen and freeze-dried forms. The freeze-dried formula is available in a 50 dose and frozen vaccine is available in 250 and 500 dose bottles.

By far the biggest difference in this vaccine is the label approval that it "aids in the prevention" of disease caused by Salmonella Typhimurium and Salmonella Choleraesuis.
