At JRG, prescription medications are veterinary medicine — not just merchandise. Here's exactly how we handle them.
Prescriptions require a valid VCPR
We dispense prescription (Rx) veterinary medications only under a valid veterinarian-client-patient relationship (VCPR). In plain terms: a licensed veterinarian must have examined your animal (or made medically appropriate visits to your operation), must know your animal well enough to diagnose and treat it, and must be available for follow-up care. If we don't have a valid VCPR for your animal, we can't dispense — no exceptions.
How to get prescription medications
Prescription medications are arranged through our in-house veterinary clinic, in person or by phone:

Prescription medications cannot be purchased through our online store — they cannot be added to a cart or bought at online checkout.
Pickup and delivery
Once a prescription has been authorized by a veterinarian and verified by our staff, you can pick it up at the clinic or we can ship it to you. Prescription shipping is arranged by the clinic and is limited to states where we are licensed to dispense; our general (non-prescription) catalog ships throughout the United States. Prescription shipments follow the cold-chain handling and carrier terms in our Shipping & Delivery Policy.
We verify every prescription
Every prescription we dispense is written or approved by a licensed veterinarian holding a valid VCPR with you and your animal. Before a prescription is filled, we confirm the medication, dose, and quantity against your animal's record, and we maintain dispensing records as required by law.
What we dispense
JRG does not compound medications. We do not prepare, mix, or alter medications on site.
Our retail and online catalog carries no controlled substances. Like any veterinary practice, our clinic maintains a limited inventory of DEA-scheduled medications under a DEA registration, for use by our veterinarians in the course of patient care. These are not stocked in our store and are not available online.

A prescription is issued only by a veterinarian licensed in the state where your animal is located, under a VCPR valid in that state.
